Twins: Royce Lewis to undergo surgery on a partial ACL tear
Royce Lewis and the Minnesota Twins received the news that he had partially torn his ACL for the second time in his career. If anyone can come back stronger and better than ever, it’s Lewis.
Lewis has gone through a lot of ups and downs since entering the league. His dreams came true in 2017 when the Twins selected him No. 1 overall in the draft. Since entering Minnesota’s farm system, he’s had a lot of success – batting .279 and .292 through his first two seasons. Unfortunately, the 2020 season was canceled due to COVID-19, and he tore his ACL in 2021.
Lewis returned in 2022 and didn’t look like a player who’s lost two years of baseball. In 34 games with the St. Paul Saints, he was hitting .313, with five home runs and 14 runs batted in.
On May 6, he made his MLB debut and showed everyone why he was a No. 1 overall pick. In 12 games, he was hitting .300, with two home runs and five runs batted in. Not only was he coming up in big moments offensively, but his defense was ELITE.
Unfortunately, just weeks later on May 29, Lewis was patrolling center field when he reinjured his knee. Initially, it looked like it was just a knee contusion, but as the swelling and bruising went away, the second MRI revealed a partial ACL tear in the same right knee.
There aren’t many players who can come back faster and stronger after tearing their ACL. Lewis defied those odds and will look to do that again this time around.
If anyone can come back from a second ACL injury, it’s Lewis. His positivity and work ethic is unmatched, and it’s why he has the ability to return and look better than ever.
Lewis’ will undergo a second surgery and miss up to 12 months.
Let’s Talk Minnesota Sports and all of Twins nation wish him nothing but the best in his recovery.
