Let's Talk Twins

Twins: Minor League Monday (9/5)

The St. Paul Saints erupted this week offensively, including an 18-run performance on Sept. 1. It wasn’t the best week for the Minnesota Twins farm system pitchers, but the offense was on another level.

Check to see who were the ‘Top Performers’ of the week:

Top Performers:
AAA

Matt Wallner, #5, OF
6 Games, .600 BA (12/20), 1 HR, 9 RBI, 6 BB, 8 SO, 1 SB

  • Matt Wallner has struggled since his promotion to St. Paul, but he’s been on fire as of late. This week, the Twins’ No. 5 prospect drove in nine RBIs and even hit for the cycle on Sept. 1.

Chris Williams, C
6 Games, .318 BA (7/22), 2 HR, 8 RBI, 3 BB, 9 SO

  • Chris Williams got off to a slow start with the Saints, but he was quick to right the ship. The former Clemson Tiger has been one of the most underrated prospects in the system and deserves a look with the Twins at the major league level.

Cole Sturgeon, OF
5 Games, .625 BA (10/16), 2 RBI, 3 BB, 3 SO, 1 SB

  • Cole Sturgeon has been on fire over the last couple of weeks. The 30-year-old was promoted to Triple-A on Aug. 27 and displayed a great deal of hitting after his promotion. He hit well over .500 and drove in a couple of runs.
AA

Edouard Julien, #14, 2B
6 Games, .333 BA (7/21), 1 HR, 7 RBI, 6 BB, 5 SO, 1 SB

  • Edouard Julien was in a bit of a slump, but hopefully, this week gets him back on track. He was the Wichita Wind Surges’ best hitter this week, and he’s arguably been their most consistent batter this season.

Aaron Sabato, #26, 1B
4 Games, .235 BA (4/17), 2 HR, 5 RBI, 1 BB, 8 SO

  • If Aaron Sabato can improve his contact hitting, and strikeout less, then he’s going to have a lot more success. His defense is a little suspect, but he’s hit 22 home runs this season and driven in 72 RBIs.
High-A

Orlando Rodriguez, RHP
1 Game, 0.00 ERA, 5.0 IP, 4 H, 0 BB, 8 SO

  • The Cedar Rapids Kernels have utilized Orlando Rodriguez out of the bullpen all season, but they’ve slowly let him loose in August. He’s been pitching more than three innings in each outing this month, and his ERA was an impressive 2.75.

Travis Adams, SP
1 Game, 1-0, 1.50 ERA, 6.0 IP, 5 H, 1 BB, 6 SO

  • Travis Adams didn’t have a great month of August (5.82 ERA), but after one start in Sept., the former 2021 MLB Draft pick gave up one earned run.
Low-A

Kala’i Rosario, OF
6 Games, .440 BA (11/25), 2 HR, 6 RBI, 1 BB, 4 SO

  • Kala’i Rosario had a great week and was the player of the game on Aug. 31 after he went 3-for-5, with one home run and four runs batted in. Rosario has shown upside and is one of the more underrated prospects in the system.

Keoni Cavaco, 3B
5 Games, .235 BA (4/17), 1 HR, 6 RBI, 2 BB, 7 SO

  • Keoni Cavaco isn’t on the top-30 prospects list anymore, which is disappointing. This week, he delivered with six RBIs and one home run. The plate discipline needs to improve, but we’ve seen a little more development as of late.

6 Games, .211 BA (4/19), 2 HR, 3 RBI, 3 BB, 3 SO
