Let's Talk Twins

Twins: Minor League Monday (9/26)

The Minnesota Twins have to be ecstatic about the way their Double-A team performed this week. The Wichita Wind Surge won the series and outscored the Tulsa Drillers 28-2.

Check to see who was this week’s ‘Top Performer’.

(This article does not include stats from the Wichita Wind Surge’s 3-11 loss over the Frisco RoughRiders. The Championship Series stats will be added in next week’s Minor League Monday report.)

AAA

Michael Helman, #30, Utility
5 Games, .333 BA (7/21), 2 HR, 2 RBI, 2 BB, 5 SO

  • You have to think Michael Helman factors into the Twins’ plans next year. He’s had a great season and is already 26 years old. This season he’s hitting .263, with 20 home runs, 59 runs batted in and 40 stolen bases. He’s got power and speed, which is something Minnesota needs.

Andrew Bechtold, C
5 Games, .421 BA (8/19), 1 HR, 3 RBI, 1 BB, 7 SO

  • Andrew Bechtold started the season with the Wind Surge but was promoted in August when the St. Paul Saints needed help. He’s struggled thus far in Triple-A, but he does provide Minnesota with catching depth.

Dereck Rodriguez, SP
1 Game, 1-0, 5.0 IP, 0.00 ERA, 1 H, 3 BB, 4 SO

  • Dereck Rodriguez has been great for the Saints and has had his moments with the Twins. It’ll be interesting to see if he returns next season, but at 30 years old, he may look to find a better opportunity elsewhere.
AA

Dashawn Keirsey Jr. CF
6 Games, .500 BA (11/22), 5 RBI, 5 BB, 3 SO, 1 SB

  • The former fourth-round pick in 2018 had a breakout season. In 2021, Dashawn Keirsey Jr. finished with a .211 batting average, seven home runs, 24 RBIs and 11 stolen bases. This year he finished with a batting average of .271, with seven home runs, 48 RBIs and 42 stolen bases.

Jair Camargo, C
2 Games, .556 (5/9), 2 HR, 7 RBI, 2 BB, 1 SO

  • Jair Camargo had a good season and was one of the more underrated stories of the season. The 23-year-old started the year playing for the FCL Twins and was quickly moved to High-A after three games. He showed some pop in Double-A, and his OBP relatively stayed the same.

Brent Headrick, SP
1 Game, 1-0, 5.0 IP, 0.00 ERA, 6 H, 0 BB, 8 SO

  • Brent Headrick picked up the win for the Wind Surge in Game 1 of the Division Series. His pitching performance, along with the offense, was a perfect encapsulation of a well-rounded game for Wichita.
