Let's Talk Twins

Twins: Minor League Monday (8/15)

Louie Varland was impressive in his first start for the Saint Paul Saints. If the Minnesota Twins were wise, they’d call up the No. 11 prospect on Sept. 1.

Check to see who else made the list:

Top Performers:
AAA

Louie Varland, #11, SP
1 Game, 1-0, 5.1 IP, 0.00 ERA, 1 H, 2 BB, 8 SO

  • Varland looked like an ace in his first game with the St. Paul Saints. The Minnesota native continues to climb the Twins’ farm system and could be one of the players added to the roster when it expands to 28 on Sept. 1.

Evan Sisk, LHP
3 Games, 1-0, 2.1 IP, 0.00 ERA, 1 H, 1 BB, 4 SO

  • Evan Sisk could and should be called up by the Twins. The lefty has struck out 54 and posted an ERA of 1.35 in 46.2 IP. He’s looked good all season and would be an upgrade in the bullpen.
AA

Edouard Julien, #23, SS
6 Games, .478 BA (11/23), 2 HR, 7 RBI, 5 BB, 6 SO, 1 SB

  • Another week, another impressive Edouard Julien performance.

Cole Sturgeon, OF
5 Games, .438 BA (7/16), 3 RBI, 3 BB, 3 SO

  • Cole Sturgeon is 30 years old and hitting .238, with an OPS of .682. He will likely be playing elsewhere next season.

Anthony Prato, SS
6 Games, .474 (9/19), 1 HR, 8 RBI, 7 BB, 3 SO

  • Anthony Prato is sneakily having a good season in Double-A. The 24-year-old is hitting .293, with an OPS of .857. He’s also swiped 18 bags and shown off a little pop, smashing nine home runs.
High-A

Kyler Fedko, OF
6 Games, .375 BA (9/24), 2 HR, 5 RBI, 1 BB, 7 SO, 1 SB

  • Kyler Fedko was hitting .350 after the first month of the season. He’s fallen off quite a bit since then, but he’s batting .326 in August. Don’t look now, but it looks like he’s regaining his swing.

Seth Gray, 3B
6 Games, .231 BA (6/26), 1 HR, 7 RBI, 9 SO, 1 SB

  • Seth Gray didn’t hit for a good average this week but knocking in seven ribbies is deserving of a shoutout. The 24-year-old has posted an OPS of .744 in 343 at-bats.
Low-A

Jaylen Nowlin, SP
1 Game, 0-1, 2.00 ERA, 6 H, 2 BB, 11 SO

  • Jaylen Nowlin started the season out of the bullpen but has quickly turned himself into one of the better starters down in Fort Myers. In 41.1 innings (starter), he’s posted an ERA of 3.92.
