Should the Minnesota Vikings start Christian Darrisaw if he’s healthy?
The Minnesota Vikings offensive line has been a project in the making for several years. Newly drafted offensive tackle Christian Darrisaw is reportedly fully healthy, but should he be inserted into the starting lineup?
The Vikings had 11 draft picks in the 2021 NFL Draft, and none of them have played a single snap. Ihmir Smith-Marsette has returned kicks, but other than that, Minnesota hasn’t had any help from their rookie class.
Darrisaw was the correct selection with the 23rd pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. However, he played through a groin injury during his junior year at Virginia Tech and has had two surgeries since then.
The Vikings have been starting Rashod Hill at left tackle, and while he’s not awful, he’s also not a starter in this league. According to Pro Football Focus, Hill is ranked as the 72nd best tackle (out of 74) with a grade of 42.7.
That’s all we need to know about the situation.
If healthy, Darrisaw deserves to be the starting left tackle. Minnesota loves offensive linemen who are athletic because of their desire to get out and run. One of his strengths is athleticism, which will not only benefit Dalvin Cook but Kirk Cousins as well.
Plus, you already know what you have in Hill, so why not develop your first-round pick as soon as possible?
If you decide to watch any of this video clip, make sure it’s the first two plays. That is enough proof to make a decision that Darrisaw should be the starter. Sept 30 was the first day he was a full participant in practice, but offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak made it clear that Hill is still their guy.
The Vikings have a bye Week 7, and that should give him enough time to get ready before entering the starting lineup.
