Let's Talk Twins

Minnesota Twins: Minor League Report (9/7)

Despite some of the Minnesota Twins’ top-30 prospects not performing well this week, there were a few standouts who stepped up big. One of those players was the organization’s fourth-round pick in the 2021 MLB Draft.

Top Performers:
AAA

Drew Maggi, IF
5 Games, .333 BA (6/18), 2 HR, 8 RBI, 1 BB, 9 SO

  • For the second consecutive week, Drew Maggi is one of the top performers of the week. Over the last 10 games, the 32-year-old is hitting .375, with two home runs and 12 RBIs.

Bryan Sammons, SP
1 Game, 5.0 IP, 0.00 ERA, 4 H, 3 BB, 4 SO

  • Bryan Sammons has made three starts for the St. Paul Saints since being called up from Double-A. The first two starts were a little shaky, giving up a total of seven earned runs. Hopefully, this outing was a sign of better things to come from the former eighth-round pick.
AA

Roy Morales, C
6 Games, .391 BA (9/23), 1 RBI, 3 BB, 4 SO, 1 SB

  • Roy Morales has had a great offensive season and this week he enjoyed four multi-hit games. Over his last eight games, the 26-year-old catcher has successfully gotten on base in his last eight games.

D.J. Burt, 2B
6 Games, .304 (7/23), 3 RBI, 1 BB, 7 SO, 2 SB

  • D.J. Burt ended the month of August going 3-for-4 and batted in three runs. It wasn’t as strong of a start to September, but the infielder earned his spot as one of the ‘Top Performers.’

Ben Gross, SP
1 Game, 2.25 ERA, 4.0 IP, 4 H, 1 BB, 7 SO, 1 HR

  • After a nice performance last week, Ben Gross earned a call-up to Double-A. There were no apparent nerves, as he was able to strikeout seven of the 12 outs.
High-A

Edouard Julien, 2B
5 Games, .263 BA (5/19), 1 HR, 4 RBI, 3 BB, 5 SO, 1 SB

  • Edouard Julien was able to collect a few base hits and batted in four runs. He’s now had seven games in which he’s reached base safely.

Louie Varland, #29, SP
1 Game, 1-0, 1.80 ERA, 5.0 IP, 3 H, 3 BB, 8 SO

  • Louie Varland has been one of the most impressive prospects this season. The left-handed pitcher from Minnesota has a 9-3 record and a 1.98 ERA in 18 games. This week, he continued that success, giving up one earned run in five innings.
Low-A

Christian Encarnacion-Strand, 3B
6 Games, .538 BA (14/26), 2 HR, 8 RBI, 1 BB, 5 SO

  • Christian Encarnacion-Strand has absolutely raked in his short period with the Fort Myers Mighty Mussels. The Twins’ fourth-round pick is hitting .420 in 50 at-bats, with four home runs and 13 RBIs – not to mention his elite OPS of 1.131.

Casey Legumina, SP
1 Game, 1-0, 0.00 ERA, 5.2 IP, 3 H, 1 BB, 5 SO

  • Casey Legumina relieved John Stankiewicz on Sept. 2 and was electric. The 24-year-old gave up three hits but didn’t allow a run in his win against the Daytona Tortugas. It’s nice to see him pick up where he left off in August after he boasted an ERA of 1.80

Logan Campbell, RHP
2 Games, 0.00 ERA, 3.0 IP, 0 H, 1 BB, 5 SO

  • Logan Campbell is starting to settle in at Fort Myers after starting the season with the FCL Twins. The right-handed pitcher didn’t have a great end of August but turned things around in his two relief outings this week.
