Let's Talk Twins

Minnesota Twins: Minor League report (8/17)

It’s ‘Minor League Tuesday’! The Wichita Wind Surge had a great offensive week, smashing 21 home runs – including six from BJ Boyd. Jose Miranda makes his regular appearance again this week and Yunior Severino is dominating High-A since being called up on July 26. The Minnesota Twins have to be happy with what they saw from their top prospects.

Top Performers:
AAA

Jose Miranda, #18, 3B
6 Games, .462 BA (12/26), 2 HR, 3 RBI, 3 BB, 2 SO

  • After a poor start to August, Miranda turned things around and looked like the player we’ve seen all year. This week he hit .462 and added two home runs to his season total of 24. I think we’re going to change the ‘Top Performers’ name to the ‘Miranda Section’ now.

Tomás Telis, C
5 Games, .375 BA (9/24), 2 HR, 5 RBI, 2 SO

  • Tomás Telis collected two home runs and added five RBIs. The veteran catcher is having an underrated season for the St. Paul Saints, hitting .287 with eight home runs.

Kyle Barraclough, RHP
3 Games, 3.1 IP, 0.00 ERA, 1 H, 1 BB, 7 SO

  • Kyle Barraclough appeared in three games for St. Paul and looked great. The 31-year-old veteran collected two strikeouts on Aug. 11, three on Aug. 13, and two more on Aug. 14. With the way the Twins have been calling up bullpen arms, Barraclough could be a potential name to watch out for.
AA

BJ Boyd, LF
6 Games, .385 BA (10/26), 6 HR, 12 RBI, 1 BB, 2 SO

  • Boyd absolutely dominated this week for the Wind Surge and was named the MiLB AA-Central Player of the Week. He had three games in which he had two home runs and drove in 12 runs.

Jermaine Palacios, SS
6 Games, .348 BA (8/23), 2 HR, 3 RBI, 2 BB, 2 SO

  • Jermaine Palacios has been one of the ‘Top Performers’ for two consecutive weeks. The shortstop has hit five home runs in August and has been on a tear in his last 11 games.

Cole Sands, #15, SP
1 Games, 0-1, 5.2 IP, 3.18 ERA, 5 H, 1 BB, 10 SO, 2 HR

  • Despite picking up the loss on Aug. 14 against the Tulsa Drillers, Cole Sands only gave up two earned runs off two solo shots. In 5.2 innings of work, the former Florida State star struck out 10 batters and looked dominant.
High-A

Yunior Severino, #28, 2B
6 Games, .480 BA (12/25), 1 HR, 1 RBI, 3 BB, 7 SO

  • Since being called up on July 26, Severino is crushing High-A. He’s hitting .424, with one home run and six runs batted in. The Twins’ No. 28 prospect has looked like an intriguing option in a few years if he continues to play well.

Jeferson Morales, C
4 Games, .500 BA (8/16), 1 HR, 6 RBI, 1 SO

  • Jeferson Morales made his debut for the Cedar Rapids Kernels on Aug. 8 and has fit in nicely. In five games, he’s hitting .474 with one home run.

Matt Canterino, #7, SP
1 Game, 3.0 IP, 0.00 ERA, 0 H, 1 BB, 8 SO

Since returning from injury, Matt Canterino has looked good in his two brief outings. This week he was responsible for striking out eight of the 12 outs recorded. The Twins’ No. 7 prospect looks like he’s just getting started.

Low-A

Aaron Sabato, #6, 1B
4 Games, .294 BA (5/17), 3 HR, 6 RBI, 1 BB, 6 SO

  • The Twins’ first-round pick in 2020, Aaron Sabato, hasn’t been able to find a groove. However, he’s already shown he has the power to play in the majors. He will have to work on striking out less and taking more quality at-bats. Don’t look now, but the former Tar Heel is heating up and has hit six home runs in August.

Aaron Rozek, LHP
2 Games, 4.0 IP, 0.00 ERA, 2 H, 6 SO

  • Aaron Rozek is making his debut on Let’s Talk Minnesota Sports after pitching well in two games. The Burnsville native struck out five batters in two innings on Aug. 11. In 10 games this season, he’s 2-1, with an ERA of 1.45.
