Let's Talk Vikings

Is there a chance the Minnesota Vikings trade for Kyler Murray?

Kyler Murray and the Arizona Cardinals look to be heading towards a breakup, but is there a chance the Minnesota Vikings could trade for him?

The Vikings may need a new quarterback sooner, rather than later. Kirk Cousins will be a free agent at the end of next season, but there’s a possibility that he’s moved before then. This season he will be making $45 million, which is way too much money.

Minnesota will never win a Super Bowl if they’re paying that much money for a quarterback. There are only a select number of players that may be worth that.

New general manager, Kwesi Adofo-Mensah, will have to make a big decision this offseason. How he approaches this situation will show what he’s trying to build moving forward.

Murray is a disgruntled star, and it appears that both sides are unhappy. There’s been a lot of back-and-forths, but recently the Cardinals claimed they don’t like his dedication. They claimed that he’s not the first guy in and the last guy out.

Here was Murray’s response to this:

Regardless of what’s true, there’s no denying Murray’s talent. He’s one of the best quarterbacks in the league, but the only concern is his height and health. Because he’s smaller than the average player in the NFL, he’s naturally going to get hit harder. He starts the year off hot, but his play gets worse as the season goes on as a result of this.

Murray is 24 years old and would be the face of the franchise if he were to get traded to Minnesota. In 14 games this season, he finished with 3,787 passing yards, 24 touchdowns and 10 interceptions.

That’s not as good as Cousins, but Murray is one of the most dynamic players in the league because of his ability to scramble. This year he ran for 423 yards and five touchdowns. His ability to extend plays and keep the defense guessing is valuable.

Last year he rushed for 819 yards and 11 TDs.

Imagine an offense in which Murray is running a play-action with Dalvin Cook and hitting Justin Jefferson deep. The defense would not be able to stop those three.

It would be difficult to trade for Murray, and it would likely cost the Vikings a lot of assets. However, if this trend continues in Arizona, the asking price will likely drop.

With Cousins making $45 million next season, Minnesota would have to find a trade partner. It would be hard to find a team that would take him in a deal without giving up an asset or two.

It just seems like a lot to give up for one player, but long-term, it would set the Vikings up perfectly.

Murray will be an unrestricted free agent at the end of the 2024 season, and will likely ask for a lot of money.

I would love to trade for him, but the Vikings will likely have to wait until everything unfolds.
