Bryn Forbes is the 3-point specialist the Minnesota Timberwolves needed
The Minnesota Timberwolves aren’t done making moves, as Jon Krawczynski of The Athletic reported that Bryn Forbes has agreed to a 1-year minimum deal.
Forbes was an undrafted player out of Michigan State and made his debut with the San Antonio Spurs in 2016-17. It wasn’t until 2018-19 had he really made his mark on the NBA. That season he started in 81 of the 82 games and averaged a career-high 28.0 minutes per contest.
Forbes has played for the Spurs, Milwaukee Bucks and Denver Nuggets in his six-year career. Because he played for those teams, he comes with a lot of playoff experience (42 games, 1 ring).
At 6-foot-2 and 205 pounds, Forbes isn’t going to do much defensively. The former Spartan has a career average of 0.4 steals and 0.0 blocks per game. That’s not such a bad thing after the addition of Rudy Gobert and Kyle Anderson.
Minnesota has capable defenders on their roster, and that’s not why Forbes is being brought in. Since entering the league, he’s shot 41.3 percent from 3 on 4.2 attempts.
The Timberwolves lost one of their best shooters in Malik Beasley and could run into trouble spacing the floor. Adding Forbes helps mitigate any of those problems, even if he’s a depth addition.
Last season he averaged 8.6 points on 42.4 percent from the field, 41.0 from 3 and 92.1 from the line.
What’s his role moving forward with the Timberwolves?
It’s likely he plays about 40-60 games and logs 15-20 minutes per contest. Minnesota will primarily use him in spacing scenarios or if they need scoring off the bench.
Forbes is a player that can get hot quickly and is able to put up 25 points on any given night. While Gobert and Anderson are great defenders, they lack shooting, and Forbes would be a good fit.
Minnesota isn’t done making moves, as they still need to fill out a couple more roster spots after the Gobert trade. Let us know in the comment section below if you’re a fan of what this front office is doing this offseason.
