Let's Talk Twins

Minnesota Twins: Minor League Report (8/10)

It was a good week for the St. Paul Saints and the Wichita Wind Surge, but that wasn’t the case for the Cedar Rapids Kernels and Fort Myers Mighty Mussels. The High-A and Low-A teams didn’t have any off-the-chart performers, which is why their section is limited.

Top Performers:
AAA

Ben Rortvedt, C
5 Games, .357 BA (5/14), 2 HR, 4 RBI, 1 BB, 2 SO

  • Ben Rortvedt has gotten a taste of the MLB, and it looks like he’s making a hard push to hear his name recalled. On top of hitting a walk-off home run on Aug. 7, he finished the week hitting .357.

Mark Contreras, LF
5 Games, .294 BA (5/17), 2 HR, 4 RBI, 1 BB, 6 SO, 1 SB

  • Mark Contreras joins Rortvedt as the only two Saints players to hit more than one home run this week. He’s hit 12 home runs and is hitting .257 in Triple-A this season

Jovani Moran, #30, LHP
2 Games, 5.1 IP, 0.00 ERA, 0 H, 0 BB, 6 SO

Jovani Moran is another player deserving of a look at the majors this season. The No. 30 prospect in the organization’s system pitched 5.1 innings and didn’t allow a hit or run. This season between Double-A and Triple-A, he’s 3-1, with an ERA of 1.88.

AA

Jermaine Palacios, SS
6 Games, .304 BA (7/23), 3 HR, 7 RBI, 3 BB, 4 SO

  • Jermaine Palacios delivered with power this week, mashing three home runs and added seven runs batted in. If you erased his 0-for-3 effort on Aug. 3, his numbers would have looked even more impressive.

Austin Martin, #2, SS
6 Games, .400 BA (8/20), 6 RBI, 6 BB, 1 SO

  • In Austin Martin’s first week with the Twins, he hit a walk-off base hit and finished with an on-base percentage of .571. It wasn’t fun seeing José Berríos traded, but Martin made it a lot easier.

Trey Cabbage, RF
6 Games, .375 BA (9/24), 6 RBI, 2 BB, 7 SO

  • Trey Cabbage may not have hit a home run this week, but he added six runs batted in and hit .375. The Wind Surge saw 19 RBIs between Cabbage, Martin and Palacios.
High-A

Yunior Severino, #29, 2B
6 Games, .381 BA (8/21), 3 RBI, 6 SO

  • Yunior Severino is the lone player for the Cedar Rapids Kernels this week after a dominating offensive performance. If the rest of the Kernels were able to get on base, it would be easy to see his RBI numbers closer to seven or eight.
